"The Case of the Lucky Legs" is a 1934 Perry Mason mystery by the prolific author Erle Stanley Gardner, shown here in a 1941 edition. The story concerns a confidence artist who promotes bogus beauty pageants in small towns in California; local merchants put up the money for the event, and the winning woman, "The Girl with the Lucky Legs," is promised a Hollywood film contract. In fact, no such contract exists, and the promoter absconds with the money. Several young women have already fallen prey to this scheme when Perry Mason is hired to find one of them, Marjorie Clune, who has run away from her hometown in shame and is trying vainly to "prove" herself in Hollywood. Then the unscrupulous pageant promoter is murdered, and Marjorie becomes the prime suspect...

This was the first book of his which I read. After reading this I started to collect Perry Mason mysteries. Now I have almost all of the books in this series. I would say that, this series is the best of the court room mystery novels which I read.

People called him Buddha ('the Enlightened'). He started preaching against animal sacrifice as the means to satisfy desires. Soon commoners and kings alike started listening to him. There were detractors too, but he came out unharmed through all their evil designs. Back to his town during his travels, he finally won over his own family to his teachings.
